The Sleep of A Dreamer is an artistic collaboration across mediums.

“Each song has it’s own hand drawn picture from different artists perspectives and then a small description of what I saw in the song. I kept a journal for almost a year from the aspect of the boy in the dream writing down everything that came into my head while writing. I took out a few paragraphs and sent them over to Aaron and he trimmed them down to a few sentences, which he thought best fit the song. When you step back and look at the album and how this is telling the story of just one dream it’s it puts a child’s imagination into perspective. " - Patrick Heaney

about

On their highly anticipated follow up The Sleep of A Dreamer, Tiny Telephones continue to expand the scope and scale of their sonic ambitions, working across mediums to yield something simultaneously grand and intimate. On their previous release the band translated the awe of immediate experience, on The Sleep of a Dreamer they internalize it, making it their own. Their Heavenly Child is growing up.

"When I started this album I knew I wanted to tell a story with a lot of highs and lows, something that goes from 0 to 60 very quick. I like to write to a storyline, like scoring a film that’s inside my head. My favorite subjects are always children because they have these vast imaginations and can go from sad, happy, scared, excited, etc in seconds. Such a huge range of emotions to work with, so the entire album tells a story about one dream a boy had that felt like it was a lifetime.” - Patrick Heaney

The opening notes of The Sleep of a Dreamer mimic the spare tapped roll of a music box, an invitation to somewhere curiously familiar. Angelic choruses shimmer against undulating synths that slowly swell until broken by orchestral percussion, creating a palpable sense of tension. Tiny Telephones have a knack for perfectly placed cinematic crescendos that burst our false sense of stability, rubbing the sleep from our eyes.

The intensity packed into each track is a product of Tiny Telephones’ willingness to experience every low and high during the recording process.
“In isolating ourselves, really immersing ourselves in themes of this record, we tapped into some darkness we hadn’t previously allowed ourselves to explore - spaces that spawned songs like Give the Boy My Best (Misery).”- Aaron Blomberg

On tracks such as He Was the Torch Driving the Savages Back Into the Woods, the band plumbs the depths of that isolation, allowing it to exist as a repeated solitary note that keeps anchor until it’s turned inside out while an entirely new world is born around it, ending in ecstatic reverie. Fans of Explosions in the Sky, M83, and the Album Leaf will appreciate the expansive range of sonic textures on display throughout The Sleep of A Dreamer.
